Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving Weekend, why, you've come so soon, is fall quarter really coming to an end already (just two more weeks) when it feels like it has only just begun?

November 25, 2009

I'll start the weekend with well the middle of the week, Wednesday. With no class for a teacher furlough day, I attempted to check items off my to do list and spent time visiting at the center (pictured: Sam and her adorable dog Penny Lane. They go together like peas in a pod.). The day ended with packing to fly home the next morning.

These are the wonderful family and friends that I spent thanksgiving with! A special day as today gets an extra photo. There's just something about this second picture that I really like; perhaps with the coloring of the flowers and that of the sparkling pomegranate juice bottle with the wine glass shinning from behind. A favorite memory from this thanksgiving: I was pleasantly surprised and excited to see Bubbie in the passenger seat when Abba came to pick us up from the airport! I love being in your aura.

Black Friday: No major crowds to weave through to get new shoes. We stopped to watch the model trains run!

I only need the Alaska Quarter to complete my 50 states quarter collection. Apparently I'm still behind, as they've now added in US territories into the mix.

Talia, Mom and I went to see The Blind Side. Great movie! The AMC theater had giant chipmunks stirring up trouble in the middle of the lobby. There's a new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie coming out in December.

In a world of ever changing technology a lot gets left left behind and traded in for the next "best" thing. The e-waste collection on campus; fittingly, placed next to both a recycle bin and a trash can. Side Note: How genius for the recycle bin to be placed with the trash can so you that the recycle bin can actually be used for recycle and not as the replacement for a trash can as is done in many other locations, especially on campus.

A Week of Festivities

What a busy and fun filled week.

I know I didn't take this picture but I sure did receive some fun and humorous twitter updates on this other wise not to eventful day.

The pretty red carnations Erica bought. They sure brighten up the room.

Just enjoying the sunset through the trees while waiting for the hour before class to pass on top of the HRT hill at Collins College.

Celebrating Erin's 21st birthday!

November 19, 2009

Looks like all that time and hard work put into classes is paying off. Erin and I at the Eta Sigma Delta Induction Ceremony Banquet.

Guess I forgot to capture a moment on camera this Friday; next time. I did, however, remember to call my sister and wish her happy birthday!

November 21, 2009

I really like this one. Saturday was an early morning and late night at the Seaport Village in San Diego between volunteering at the San Diego Wine and Food Festival.

Sunday gets a bonus photo! Talia and I had a blast exploring all the new and nifty items at The Farm Store and making a root beer flavored cake afterward for Diane's retirement gathering at the center on Monday. Who knew 'they' make mixes to make your own marshmallows or that you can buy apple and cinnamon flavoring spoons where the spoons handle is a cinnamon stick?

November 23, 2009

Diane's retirement gathering at the center today was bittersweet but so much fun. We're going to miss you!

Sister time! Just another Saturday at the apartment. Talia and I made latkas.

3-D Leadership Conference

November 13, 2009
We'll start with a picture from today, well technically yesterday. I've stayed up way too late; or should I say early?

Dustin Lance Black, the screenplay writer for the Oscar winning MILK, was the keynote speaker at the 3-D Leadership Conference.

His advice:
• Lead with hope, not fear
• Agitate; cause a stir, and lead
• You have to be willing to fight for what you believe in
And my favorite
• Greet frightening moments with joy; they are opportunities

The Song

This Is One Of Those

Jenn Schott

“Three best friends

Heading west to the coast

To make the most

Of their dreams and the LA scene

Cars loaded up with too much stuff

Mamas cryin’, tryin’ to pack in that last bit advice

Don’t go too fast this time will pass you by

Enjoy the ride

Chorus:

This is one of those moments

Snapshots

You’ll look back on

Smiling

All good

Nothing in the world wrong

Sun shining on your face

Center stage

Glory days

Blink

And then it’s gone

Hold on

Look close

This is one of those

That Saturday in June

Couldn’t come to soon

In his tux in front of the church waitin’ on her

Can’t wait to start his life with his wife

Get to the good stuff

When the door opens wide and she’s there in white

Everybody stands and his best man leans over

And says to him

Chorus:

This is one of those moments

Snapshots

You’ll look back on

Smiling

All good

Nothing in the world wrong

Sun shining on your face

Center stage

Glory days

Blink

And then it’s gone

Hold on

Look close

This is one of those

Bridge:

The beauty of a moment

Is knowing when you’re in it

And living so you’re able

To say

Chorus:

This is one of those moments

Snapshots

You’ll look back on

Smiling

All good

Nothing in the world wrong

Sun shining on your face

Center stage

Glory days

Blink

And then it’s gone

Hold on

Look close

This is one of those

Yeah

This is one of those

Yeah”
